"Why is it that when the story ends we begin to feel all of it?"
It's sad how many of us aren't happy with where we are. We keep hoping and dreaming of the peace we will one day feel. The hope of change. The hope of ultimate happiness.
But then, when the future comes, most likely nothing has changed... except perhaps one thing. You start to realize that all along you were actually blooming. You look back at the pictures that you used to hate of yourself and now realize that, wow, you were actually really pretty. You think back to the times you felt at your laziest- but now- you see for the first time how productive you really were.
It's sad that so many of us will never value the moments we're currently in until it becomes a memory. Until we can look back without the lens of judgment we look though when we asses our current self. It's sad that our happiness seems only to be found in our past selves and hoped for in our future selves, but never experienced in our current selves.
But how does one start to live in the moment? Is it possible to be more alive than our memories? How does one stop judging yourself so cruelly?
It's true that our mind is our greatest weapon, but it also has the potential to be our biggest enemy. We have to get out of our heads. The most happiness is lost due to our own negativity and dwelling on our mistakes. Most battles are lost in the mind- not the ability- of a person. So, I think it's also safe to say that most people's happiness is therefore also lost because of their minds and not necessarily their circumstances.
As C.S Lewis said: "It's not the load that breaks you down. It's the way you carry it."
Once we start to look at our situation from a different perspective, once we start getting out of our own heads- that's when we start to realize the difference.
